It was a great time working for Micronets, but as so many things in life, everything comes to an end.

OpenText bought Vignette in May 2009 (Micronets-Vidavee was part of Vignette) and they decided(on July 2009) to close the office in Cluj Napoca. Everybody(around 24 people) was layd off by 30 December 2009. This is so sad, we had a great team and cool products.

We received some severance payment from OpenText (that Romanian laws grant us) but nothing more. There were people in the office who received the value of one salary…I was happy to get severance payment for two months.
The really sad part of the story is how OpenText treated us. More on this on a future post.

I learned a lot, I meet wonderful people(in India, US and UK) I made friends at Micronets and I’m sure life will be better without OpenText

We just had Christmas and New Year, right now I don’t have big plans, just trying to rest. I’m thinking to take a freelance position for a while.

I’m thinking to add a new design to the current page, but for now it will present me in a very simple way.  I have a short presentation here, an updated CV and Portfolio page and a new Contact page.

Old pictures from my site are gone, CV has been updated.

Several portfolio items removed as they become old or not existing any more on the web. New portfolio items will be added, waiting for some Vignette products to be released.

About 5 years ago I bought my first digital camera, it was a HP M305, 3.2 MP, poor video and audio quality. 2 weeks ago the camera started to shut down suddenly. Yes, it was time to get a new digital camera. After thinking, googleing and reading a tons of reviews I choosed a compact digital camera, the Canon Powershot SX1 IS. It has a 10MP CCD sensor, shoots 4 frames per second, can record 320×240, 640×480 and 1920×1080(Full HD) videos with great quality and has a 20X optical zoom.

I already shot about 400 images and 10 videos, I’m excited about the great quality the camera provides. I think, this camera is one of the best cameras on the market at this time in the compact cameras section.

I just realized, I posted on a few areas but I didn’t introduce myself yet. Yes, computer scientists are human, they forget like everybody else.

Of course, nothing is updated, I’m just to busy working on great stuff in the office, sometimes at home too.

This week started to rain and is quite cold out there, its just an autumn day yet and most of the people think: “this sucks”, and they really really hate it. For me, this is a sign, because I enjoy winter .

About 20 years ago, we had 1 feet of snow at 1 november, and I hope this year winter will come ASAP. I already changed my cars tiers for mud&snow, and today I will take a look at my skies. At 50 miles from me, there is a ski field, sadly I just find out yesterday, then the road to that is in a very poor condition.

It is funny, how someone can be happy, when they see that the weather is changing from suneshine and cold to rain, mud and cold.

Bryce Johnson is senior vice president and general counsel of Vignette, company that bought Micronets Corporation in apr. 2008, in other words: he’s one of my bosses from the US. Once in a while, bosses from Vignette are visiting us, and those times we usually go out to dinner together.

Mr Johnson was Chief Legal Counsel for Tivoli Systems Inc. and Associate General Counsel of IBM Corporation before working for Vignette. It was a pleasure meeting and talking with him. The dinner was a great opportunity to know him, and also to know more about my coworkers.

Micronets Corporaton is still a small company with about 20 programmers, they were bought by world wide known Vignette company(with around 850 workers). Just yesterday I found out, that Micronets is extending, they want to hire 6-8 programmers :), so things are looking just better and better.

It is funny how things work out. One year ago, while still working for Spin Development, I had an interview at Micronets Corporation. It went well, but I turned off their offer. Bianca, one of my coworkers at Spin Development accepted their offer, and this year called me, asking if I would like to change my workpace.

I sad maybe , and started to negociate with Micronets Corporation again. Things have changed there in the last year and I accepted their offer. So, after working for 4 years at Spin Development(formerly called Virtualro Multimedia) on 29 aug 2008 I had my last workday at Spin Development and started to work on 01 sept 2008 at Micronets Corporation.

I started my work 3 weeks ago, I meet many great software developers there. I’m working on the Flash Developers team with Bianca (my ex coworker from Spin Development) and Anca. I hope, the Flash team will be extended soon, there is a lot of work to do .

The working conditions are great in the office, there is quiet, good management, profesionalism, great and challenging projects. I hope to work for them many many years from now on, there are things that were better at my previouse workplace (like the work hours, the possibility to grow, the technology used) but I will try to do my best here.

It is the place where all started. After graduating in 2004 the Faculty of Computer Science, “Babes - Bolyai” University, Cluj - Napoca, Spin Development(formerly called Virtualro Multimedia) was my first workplace.

It was a small company, less then 10 people, but they were great. I learned a lot there about Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex, Php, MySql, AmfPHP and many other great things.

After 4 years of developing Adobe Flash and Flex applications, I decided, that is time to move on, and I started to work for Micronets Corporation. Right now, it seams like a good decision.

LE. 6 months after I left from Spin Development they faced bankruptcy. The main cause is the world wide known recession. They are having a really good e-commerce solution to sell (check http://virtualro.com/) but it’s a difficult time to search for buyers.
Lets hope things will turn around and Spin Development will raise again with their shopping cart.
